The National Veld and Forest Fire Act places the responsibility for the prevention and suppression of Wildfires on the landowner /user. This requires all people who is in control of land where a wildfire can start or spread from to reasonably prevent the ignition and spread of veld fires from land under their control. FSUFPA developed compliance and capacity training programs tailored to the environmental and socioeconomic realities of the Free State.
Wildfire suppression is a very dangerous activity and a basic understanding of the hazards and behaviour of wildfires increases personal safety while improved suppression tactics and techniques increases effectivity and decreases suppression costs.
Improving the landowner’s ability achieve practical compliance with the Veld and Forest Fire Act mitigates the potential economic losses caused by wildfires.
